Cannabidiol (CBD) is classified as a “Phyto-cannabinoid.” This means that:
Melatonin is a hormone primarily released by the pineal gland that regulates the sleep–wake cycle. The production and release of melatonin in the brain is connected to time of day, increasing when it's dark and decreasing when it's light. Melatonin production declines with age.
What Does Melatonin Do?
Natural secretion starts from the amino acid tryptophan, with serotonin as an intermediary, and then is released to the receptors in the brain, eye and other areas to help control the sleep and wake cycles. The half- life is short, roughly 20 to 50 minutes. It is metabolized (broken down) by the CYP-450 enzyme system in the liver and then excreted in the urine or feces.
How Does Melatonin Work?
Natural melatonin is a highly lipid soluble hormone produced in the pineal gland in the brain. It is synthesized from the amino acid tryptophan and then released into the blood and cerebrospinal fluid, crossing the blood-brain barrier. It sends messages to the receptor agonist in the brain and other areas of the body to help control the sleep and wake cycles.
Uses of Melatonin:
Theanine is an amino acid found in tea. It is also found in some mushrooms. Theanine is used to improve mental function. It is also used for anxiety, mental impairment, stress, and as an adjunct for sleep.
How does it work?
Theanine has a chemical structure very similar to glutamate, a naturally occurring amino acid in the body that helps transmit nerve impulses in the brain. Some of the effects of theanine appear to be similar to glutamate, and some effects seem to block glutamate.
What does L-Theanine do?
L-Theanine promotes relaxation without drowsiness. It helps ease stress and helps people unwind.
L-Theanine can be beneficial for a good night’s sleep. Researchers in one study found that taking it at bedtime greatly improved sleep quality in both humans and animals, by promoting longer and more restful sleep.
L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid made from plant or animal sources. It is known as an essential Amino Acid in that the body does NOT produce it.
How does L-Tryptophan work?
L-Tryptophan helps the body make proteins and certain brain -signaling chemicals. Your body changes L-tryptophan into a brain chemical called serotonin. Serotonin transmits signals between your nerve cells and also narrows (constricts) blood vessels. The amount of serotonin in the brain helps control mood and sleep.
GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) is a neurotransmitter that sends chemical messages through the brain and the nervous system. GABA is one of the more potent depressive neuroactive peptides in human brain tissue. It is involved in a wide range of suppressive and depressive activities intimate with the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). It is synthesized directly from the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate via the enzyme glutamate decarboxylase and can be reverse transformed to glutamate via the tricarboxylic acid cycle.
What does GABA do?
GABA is the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter in the developmentally mature mammalian central nervous system. Its principal role is reducing neuronal excitability throughout the nervous system. When taken orally, GABA helps reduce anxiety, improves mood and helps “ALLOW” one to sleep.
