Cannabidiol (CBD) is classified as a “Phyto-cannabinoid.” This means that:
L-theanine is an amino acid. The human body does not produce this compound, and it is not essential for humans. Green tea, black tea, and certain types of mushroom naturally contain L-theanine. L-theanine may affect the levels of certain chemicals in the brain. These include serotonin and dopamine, which influence mood, sleep, and emotion, and cortisol, which helps the body deal with stress.
A change in the balance of these chemicals can change a person’s mood or stress levels. Small studies and tests on animals have shown that L-theanine may offer a range of benefits. Experts consider it to be generally safe, but there is currently a lack of high-quality research in humans to confirm its benefits
How Does L-Theanine Effect the Brain?
Although the pharmacological effects of theanine are uncertain, several researchers have proposed a number of mechanisms by which it may act on the CNS. These include the inhibition of glutamate receptors, increasing the concentration of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), increasing dopamine and serotonin in specific brain regions, inhibition of glutamate-induced effects including apoptosis and amyloid beta toxicity, hippocampal neurogenesis and enhanced memory, and neuroprotective blockage of multiple glutamate receptor subtypes in the hippocampus, suggesting a potential role in Parkinson and Alzheimer diseases.
Reported (Limited Clinical Information) Beneficial Effects of L-Theanine:
Phenylalanine is an amino acid, a "building block" of protein. There are three forms of phenylalanine: D-phenylalanine, L-phenylalanine, and the mix made in the laboratory called DL-phenylalanine.
L-phenylalanine is the natural form found in protein-rich foods. L-phenylalanine is an essential amino acid. It is the only form of phenylalanine found in proteins. Major dietary sources of L-phenylalanine include meat, fish, eggs, cheese, and milk.
D-phenylalanine is the synthetic mirror image. D-phenylalanine is not an essential amino acid. Its role in the body is not currently understood.
Since some benefits are associated with one form and not the other and vice versa, a third form, DL-phenylalanine is available. DL-phenylalanine is a combination of both forms, which can maximize benefits.
What Does DL-Phenylalanine do?
Brain chemicals called neurotransmitters play an important role in mood health, and phenylalanine is needed to produce certain neurotransmitters, including dopamine and serotonin. These chemicals influence appetite, energy levels, sleep cycles and mood. When combined with traditional medical care, DL-phenylalanine may help improve depressive symptoms, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. However, more clinical research is needed.
L-Tyrosine is a naturally-occurring amino acid that is essential to both physical and mental function. It is the precursor for Dopamine, Adrenaline, and Norepinephrine, three of the most important neurotransmitters. Dopamine is associated with reward and pleasure and plays an important role in mood.
What Does L-Tyrosine Do?
L-Tyrosine is used to improve attention, alertness, and focus. It also produces important brain chemicals that help nerve cells communicate and may help in depression.
