The Science of Product Form and Delivery Systems

We’re going to get technical for a few minutes, so if you’re interested in the science behind our product delivery systems, then this information is for you.

It’s important to know that the effectiveness of each product doesn’t only depend on the amount of CBD in a particular delivery system.

Effectiveness is directly related to a product’s Bioavailability (How much active ingredients gets into the body).

  • Bioavailability of a product is dependent upon the following parameters (“Pharmacokinetics”): 
    • Absorption – Amount of the active ingredients that pass through the skin, gastrointestinal tract, or mucus membranes into the body
    • Distribution – Where the active ingredients go in the body
    • Metabolism – How the ingredients are broken down
    • Elimination – How the ingredients are removed through the body, most commonly through the liver and kidneys. 

Bioavailability is mostly dependent on the delivery system, which can affect the time a product takes to act and how long it lasts. We have found that the best results are achieved through: 

  • Oral
  • Transdermal (Topical)

PRISMM Earth Transdermal Creams Use Liposomal Delivery

Liposomes are molecules consisting of an outer Lipid (Fat) Bilayer (houses oil-soluble active ingredients) and an inner area that houses solid or water-soluble drugs).

PRISMM Earth’s topical/transdermal creams use a Liposomal base to carry active drugs through all layers of the skin for maximum concentration at the site of application. 

This means that the topical/transdermal products produced by PRISMM Earth have the greatest bioavailability (amount of CBD reaching the target areas) in the world.

  • Liposomal base enhances ingredient penetration through the skin

Our capsule products are carefully formulated for consistency and to create a uniform response.

This means that both the standard release amount and time (onset of action) are always consistent.

Why PRISMM Earth Uses Troches (Lozenges)

The PRISMM Earth Troches are placed between the cheek and gum for optimal absorption. A significant amount of the active ingredients is absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the mucosal lining of the mouth.

Under normal circumstances, only a small amount of a drug is swallowed and absorbed through the Gastro-intestinal Tract.

Benefits of Troches

The benefits of this delivery system include a more rapid onset of action than through the oral route, which bypasses the GI Tract thus eliminating the effects of First Pass Metabolism.

First Pass Metabolism occurs only when a drug is taken orally. The drug goes from the GI Tract directly to the Liver where it is broken down by Liver Enzymes thus reducing the amount of “active” drug up taken by the body.

Why are troches a great option for some products?

  • Similar to lozenges, but is placed between the cheek and gums
  • Improves absorption without potency loss from swallowing
  • More rapid onset of ingredients than capsules or lozenges
  • Uniform absorption of active ingredients
